The building of new homes on the former Rossington Colliery site – now branded as Torne Park – forms a key part of a wider ‘Gateway to the Sheffield City Region’ programme that is a game-changing proposition for Yorkshire’s economy.
The site is ideally located to meet a significant part of Doncaster’s future housing needs and also play a vital role in the regeneration of the former mining settlement. The site also sits next to a consented employment site – the Inland Port – that will generate a significant number of Logistics-related jobs from 6m sq. ft of employment space when built out.
Rossington village has previously suffered from poor vehicular access and we have worked closely with Doncaster Council, Peel (the owner of Robin Hood Airport) and Verdion (the developer of the Inland Port) to develop & promote the Great Yorkshire Way, a 5km new road from Junction 3 of the M18 to Robin Hood Airport; this scheme is critical to opening up employment and housing land to create new jobs and to meet the demand for new homes. The FARRRS link road completed in February 2016, with the link to Rossington Village shortly following.
FARRRS and its associated infrastructure opens up some of our land for mixed-use development. We secured outline planning consent in December 2012 for a mixed use scheme including up to 1200 new homes, commercial buildings, food retail, a school and a health centre. Harron Homes are now on-site and have built the first 15 of 70 new homes following Great Yorkshire Way’s completion, with a further land sale that could accommodate 90 plots to be completed later this year.
