Overview & Vision

The former Skelton Grange power station site was purchased by Harworth in December 2014. The site is currently being submitted for planning to bring forward a new commercial scheme, bringing forward a range of commercial opportunities in the near future.

Following the closure of the power station and its subsequent demolition in 1990 by the original operators, the site, following its purchase by Harworth, had historic planning permission for 855,000 sq ft of employment space in addition to consent for a 300,000-tonne a year Energy from Waste (EfW) facility, making use of the former power station’s substation that has remained operational.

A further planning application was also consented in 2017 for the eastern section of the site, which has subsequently provided an additional platform of around 15-acres of land which is available for short-term open storage uses, prior to the long-term redevelopment of the site which is currently being re-masterplanned.

In May 2019, EfW operator and developer Wheelabrator Technologies purchased 19.5 acres of land from Harworth to build a new major EfW facility to produce energy on site for the local region, with development work expected to begin in 2021.
