Skills and Experience

Alastair is Non-Executive Chair of Vitality UK, and until 31 December 2024 he was Chair of Welsh Water. He was Non-Executive Chair of Admiral Group plc from 2000 to 2017, Deputy Chair of Bovis Homes from 2008 to 2018, Chair of Serco Group plc from 2010 to 2015 and of Towergate Insurance from 2011 to 2015. Previously in his executive career, Alastair was Chief Executive of the National Provident Institution and the National and Provincial Building Society, Managing Director of the Insurance Division of Abbey National plc and Director of Corporate Projects at National Westminster Bank plc. He has a broad base of business experience with a particular focus on the real estate, outsourcing, water and insurance sector. He was awarded the CBE in 2001 for services to social security having served as a non-executive director of the Department for Work and Pensions and the Department of Social Security. And he was also a non-executive of the Department of Transport.
