It’s not often that three members of the same family work on a job together but in the case of John, Sean and Nathaniel Couldwell it’s three generations of the same family working together to help build new units at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) at Waverley in Rotherham.
Couldwell Concrete Flooring Ltd are installing the floor of both Units 3 and 4 at R-evolution – Yorkshire’s first speculative development since the downturn. John, 68 (middle of shot) began the Wakefield-based business back in 1974 and the company now serves a number of leading commercial contractors and engineers across the UK to deliver concrete floors of lasting quality.
The business is now run by John’s son Sean, 45 (right of shot) who is overseeing the floor’s installation in both Unit 3 (30,000 sq. ft) and Unit 4 (22,000 sq. ft). Sean’s son Nathaniel, 18 (left of shot) is also one of the team completing the job. The Couldwell’s have over 7 decades of floor laying experience between them.
Both units are being speculatively built by Harworth Estates on behalf of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council to meet the huge demand for space amongst firms to join the likes of Rolls-Royce, Boeing and Dormer Tools already on-site. Construction of both units will be complete by November ready for letting to new occupiers.
Only 68 acres of employment space remains at the Advanced Manufacturing Park which forms part of Harworth Estates’ Waverley development – Yorkshire’s largest ever brownfield mixed-use development that spans over 740 acres. Aside from the AMP, 400 homes have already been built as part of a new residential community that will eventually comprise 4,000 homes, new community facilities and public open space within the next 15 years. It is estimated that Waverley will eventually add £300m of Gross Value Added (GVA) to the local economy once fully built out.
