We have transformed a reclaimed former industrial site into WAVERLEY – a thriving new 740 acre development comprising an Advanced Manufacturing Park with world-leading employers, employment development and a new community of 4,000 homes along with shops, restaurants, schools, leisure & community facilities and parks. Just two minutes from Junction 33 of the M1 and at the heart of the Sheffield City Region, Waverley is Yorkshire’s largest ever brownfield mixed-use development.
Following over 10 years of surface mine coal extraction, significant private investment and ground preparation works lasting a number of years, we secured outline planning consent for the development in 2011. The vision for Waverley was to provide a sustainable, mixed use development and is expected to contribute over £1 billion to the local economy as it is built over the next 20 years.
Phase one of residential development began in Spring 2012 and after a great deal of interest and a competitive tendering process, Harworth Estates selected Taylor Wimpey, Barratt Homes and Harron Homes as development partners to deliver the first 250 homes. Following a successful show home launch in September 2012, Waverley’s first new residents moved in to their houses in December 2012. Since then, the three housebuilders have purchased land for a total of 740 new homes as at September 2016, with 550 homes already built and occupied.
As landowner and overall custodian of Waverley, we work closely with housebuilders to assist in the planning process and ensure that the development is of high quality design and landscaping, helping to shape the future of the site. With this in mind, the next phases of the scheme are now coming forward with the intention to release further land parcels on regular basis going forward to continue with the success and growth of the development.
With the AMP continuing to expand and with our plans to also bring forward a 12 acre local centre development from 2017 onwards, Waverley continues to establish itself as one of Yorkshire’s leading residential locations. Please contact Duncan Armstrong-Payne for further information.
