Despite torrential downpours on Sunday, crowds flooded to the second annual Waverley Gala day and helped raise hundreds of pounds for their charity of the year, the Rotherham Hospice.
With live music, face painting, dance acts, theatre productions, giant games, a range of stalls and much, much more, visitors from Rotherham, Sheffield and further afield braved the extreme August weather caused by Hurricane Bertha to enjoy a family fun-filled day out at Waverley.
The day, which was opened by the Mayor of Rotherham Councillor John Foden and his wife Kath, hosted the first ever Waverley Dash, a 5K fun run organised by the Handsworth Roadhogs running club which saw dozens of brave runners face the elements and race to raise funds for the Rotherham Hospice.
Rotherham Hospice is a charity committed to providing the highest standard of end of life care for patients and families affected by terminal illness over the age of 18.
Duncan Armstrong-Payne, Harworth Estates’ Development Manager for Waverley said: “The day was a success with lots of people braving the rain and taking part in the Waverley Dash. We had local musical entertainment, which brought out the sunshine, giant games, dance classes, face painting and loom band making amongst other activities.
“Staff from our new local pub, The Winter Green, were terrific, dishing up lovely delights for our guests and also donating a raffle prizes in aid of Rotherham Hospice.
“Alongside our other sponsors Harron, Taylor Wimpey, Barratts and Marstons, we’ll be back even bigger and better next year when the weather will hopefully behave!”
