Concrete flooring manufacturer, Lynx Precast, has signed a new 15 year lease and taken out an extra 20,000 sq ft of space at Lynefield Park.
Plans to develop an industrial estate at the site of a former aluminium plant have taken a step forward, after one of the site’s tenants, Lynx Precast Limited, renewed its factory lease for 15 years at the Lynefield Park development.
As well as renewing its lease, the company has also agreed to take an extra 20,000 sq ft of industrial space at the industrial park, which will allow it to expand. The company currently employs 48 members of staff and supplies concrete flooring to national and regional housebuilders.
Andy Teasdale, managing director of Lynx Precast, said:
“This is an exciting next phase in the company’s growth and our ambitions to grow the business on a national level are firmly rooted here in Northumberland.
“The nature of our business dictates the commercial space that we require in terms of land, storage, services, access for vehicles and local transport infrastructure, and Lynefield Park met all of our requirements now and for the future.
“The development plans that Harworth Group has for the site demonstrates a fantastic and sustainable vision, not only for the local area and surrounding communities, but also for individual businesses, the region and wider economy.
“Having started Lynx Precast here shortly after the closure of the Alcan smelter plant, it offered us a total, all-round solution and now allows us to expand and scale-up the business with the possibility of new jobs being created over the next year.”
Lynefield Park industrial estate is being built at the former site of the Alcan aluminium plant in Lynemouth, which closed in 2012. The closure led to the loss of 323 jobs in the area.
The land has now been bought by the Harworth group which is redeveloping the brownfield land into a 1.3m sq ft industrial estate. It is hoped that around 700 people will eventually work at the facility.
One benefit of Lynefield Park is that it contains a dedicated railway line that can be used to transport goods to the Port of Blyth and further afield. It is hoped that such facilities will attract large manufacturers to the region.

Eddie Peat, director of Harworth Group (North East & Corporate Development), said:
“Harworth has a long and very successful track record transforming sites like the former Alcan site here in Lynemouth into strategic and sustainable new places following the decline of past industries.
“Our Waverley site in Rotherham is a great example of what we can achieve following 20 years of work with Government agencies, housebuilders and leading commercial occupiers such as Rolls-Royce, Boeing and McLaren Automotive.
“Harworth Group has a real commitment to the North East and South East Northumberland and our vision for Lynefield Park clearly demonstrates this.”
