Harworth Estates has received outline planning consent for a significant development of new housing in Castleford, West Yorkshire.
Wakefield Council has granted outline consent for a development on Flass Lane that comprises:
- residential development of up to 560 dwellings;
- a Family Pub; and
- up to 50,000 sq ft of light industrial units and associated works.
The application also included Harworth Estates reserving land for a new road corridor to facilitate Wakefield Council’s proposed Southern Link Road scheme. Once built, this will improve traffic flow and open up further development land.
The outline planning consent was achieved by Harworth’s Strategic Land division. Over the last seven years the division has obtained consents for more than 11,000 housing plots and more than 8 million sq ft of employment space across the north of England and the Midlands.
Tim Love, Director of Strategic Land, said: “We’re delighted that we have received another planning consent in Yorkshire and we look forward to building on what we have achieved at the nearby Prince of Wales development.
“New housing remains in short supply in the UK. This is the seventh residential consent achieved by us in 2015 that will eventually provide over 2,000 new homes to the UK.
“Castleford is a strong local housing market due to its location and the competitive pricing of the housing on offer and we plan to deliver new homes on the site from next year.”
The receipt of planning consent at Flass Lane follows on from Harworth making significant progress at its Prince of Wales development in Pontefract. Ben Bailey began the construction of the first of 131 consented new homes in January, with over 20 already built and occupied. Harron Homes have also started the construction of a range of family homes and they anticipate occupation by the end of 2015. The development has consented for a total of 917 homes, alongside 265,000 sq. ft of commercial space and a range of leisure uses.
